We said there was a disparity in African-American health, and here are the numbers to prove it.

African-American stats vs white population:

  • Heart disease: 30% higher death rate
  • Stroke: 80% higher death rate
  • Cancer: 40% higher death rate
  • Diabetes: 80% higher rate
  • High blood pressure: 20% higher rate

In addition, 82.1% of African-American women are overweight or obese compared to 59.5% of white women.

And these numbers are worse in the South. Look at the table below.

Why the disparity?

Two reasons. Lack of access to healthy food. Lack of access to venues for exercise. The two factors we’re trying to change. But we need your help. Take advantage of the opportunities and information we’re providing. Eat right. Exercise. Together, we can change these numbers.
